HerrenbergMinisters Bettel and François Bausch pay visit to army base

Over the past two years, the Luxembourg Army has conducted more unusual operations than is normally the case.

The Luxembourg Army conducted operations both during the beginning stages of the pandemic and during the record-breaking floods in July. On Monday, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel and Minister of Defence François Bausch paid a visit to the army base on Herrenberg to take stock of both operations.

In the context of the pandemic, around 160 soldiers helped distribute masks, erect tents outside of hospitals, and ensure safety and the smooth operation of vaccination centres.

During the July floods, 270 soldiers were deployed to assist people in severely affected regions. Those types of operations are especially important, Minister Bausch emphasised, as they help bolster the army’s significance and image in the country.
