Home Affairs Minister Léon Gloden on Tuesday justified his presence at the press conference on the million-euro drug bust at a farm in northern Luxembourg, which the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP) had criticised as calling the constitutional independence of the judiciary into question. LSAP MP Liz Braz on Tuesday wanted to know whether the Minister for Home Affairs had invited himself to the press conference and whether he had wanted to put himself forward in this way.

Minister Gloden argued that his presence at the impromptu press conference was an important show of solidarity and gratitude to the judicial authorities and their successful operation against drug trafficking. The minister further deemed the LSAP’s question as completely “out of place” and lacking appropriate standard, alleging that the socialist party is engaging in populism.
