The Left Party (Déi Lénk) slammed Minister for Family Affairs Corinne Cahen for her decision to grant a provisional licence for the opening of a retirement home in Merl to the French company Orpea.
In a statement released on Thursday, the opposition party criticises that Orpea is now free “to use the elderly to make a profit.” The Left party views this as “outrageous” because the Minister “is aware of the financial, hygienic, and operational scandals that the corporation has been involved in.”
The party warns about fiscal evasion towards Luxembourg and highlights gruelling working conditions and elderly residents at Orpea homes in France that were “showing signs of malnutrition.” According o the Left Party, Corinne Cahen “conveys the will of the government to surrender the well-being and health of the elderly to these private companies without thinking too much about quality.”
The decision reflects nothing less than “total contempt for these people,” the opposition party concluded.
