Nuno Sabugueiro, owner of the Champs Élysées nightclub, expresses frustration over the association of his establishment with a recent incident reported by the police in Pétange on Friday night.
Luxembourg police issued a witness appeal on Saturday morning after an altercation occurred “near the Champs Élysées nightclub” around 3am, according to the official police bulletin, resulting in one person sustaining serious knife injuries and requiring hospitalisation.
The inclusion of his nightclub’s name in connection with the altercation prompted the manager to announce the temporary closure of the nightclub “for an indefinite period” via his Facebook page on Saturday. He clarified that “the restaurant [of the nightclub] will continue to operate and there will be music until 1am.”
In December 2023, a serious incident occurred in the same nightclub, leaving one person dead. However, the owner vehemently denies any involvement of his establishment in the recent altercation. He deems it “utterly strange” that the nightclub’s name was mentioned in the press and emphasises that the establishment had been closed long before the incident occurred. Nevertheless, “we are still being accused by the authorities.”
The nightclub owner accuses the local authorities of “incompetence” and defends his establishment’s record: “I have 23 employees; I pay my taxes […] We’ve been here for four years, and I’ve never had a complaint about disorder in our establishment […] We’re being wrongly targeted.”
Asserting his commitment to seeking justice, Sabugueiro concludes on his Facebook page, “Our name is bothering a lot of people, but I promise we’ll go all the way to see that justice is done.”
