This meticulous process is made possible by advanced technology and professional divers, negating the need to drain the dam’s water.
The dam’s retaining wall, which is routinely monitored for cracks and other anomalies, is the focus of this inspection. The more concealed parts of the wall, including the electromechanical components, are closely scrutinised, necessitating the opening and closing of the floodgates.
A team of specialists from southern France has been brought in to conduct an in-depth examination of the underwater sections using a submarine drone. This robotic device analyses areas that would typically elude human observation. A diver follows the drone, filming every aspect of the process to ensure comprehensive documentation.
Yann Fux, a representative from the Bridges and Roads Authority who has been involved in preparing for this year’s safety check, reported that the wall appears to be in excellent condition. The next comprehensive inspection of the retaining wall is scheduled for 2033.
