Top experts tackle sports analyticsLuxembourg to host international conference on maths and sport

Luxembourg is set to host the eleventh edition of the MathSport International conference this week, bringing together top athletes and researchers to explore the intersection between mathematics and sport.

The events take place from 4–6 June at Coque and LUNEX University, and mark the first time the conference is being held in the Grand Duchy. Hundreds of professionals from a range of disciplines are expected to attend, aiming to foster knowledge exchange on sports analytics, medicine, economics, and scheduling.

The conference is organised by the University of Luxembourg in collaboration with the Comité Olympique et Sportif Luxembourgeois, the Luxembourg Institute for Research in Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine and Science, the Luxembourg Institute of Health, the Luxembourg Institute for High Performance in Sports, and LUNEX University, the conference seeks to highlight the increasing role of data and interdisciplinary research in the modern sporting landscape.

Events will be opened by Minister for Higher Education Stéphanie Obertin and Minister of Sports George Mischo on the morning of 4 June.

On 5 June there will be a meet and greet with well-known Luxembourg athletes Andy Schleck, Jonathan Laugel, Anne Simon, and Laurent Carnol.

Keynote speakers include Paola Zuccolotto on sports analytics, Frits Spieksma on sports scheduling, Romain Seil on sports medicine and Tim Pawlowski on sports economics.

The conference aims to reinforce the growing importance of mathematics and data in sport, while building connections between the academic community and sporting professionals.
