As the world reflects on the massacre of 8,372 Muslim Bosnians committed by Bosnian Serb forces in July 1995, the Luxembourg community unveiled a new commemorative plaque in Tony Neumann park in Limpertsberg.

Initiated by the Committee for Srebrenica Luxembourg and designed by architect Luc Theis, the plaque not only looks to commemorate the victims, but also urges passers-by to stand “against hate, for justice”.

Among the attendees of the ceremony were Luxembourg City mayor Lydie Polfer, members of the municipal council, parliament representatives, members of the Bosnia-Herzegovina embassy, as well as members of the Bosnian community here in Luxembourg. Victims’ families were also invited.

Jasmin Sinanović, a surviving victim of the genocide, addressed the people with a strong message: “I stand here, full of grief, but also with strength, for memory, for the fight for justice and our common responsibility to not let the truth be forgotten. This memorial is not only a sign of commemoration, but also of a promise: never again.”
