A message reached many residents on Friday evening telling them that their social security card had expired, after someone successfully managed to hijack the alert system.
On Saturday, the authorities explained that the system had been the victim of identity theft.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, “the LU-Alert system was not compromised and remained operational at all times”.
