“Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse, Luc Frieden takes it a step further”, said LSAP parliamentary group leader Taina Bofferding in response to the Prime Minister’s remarks on Thursday. Frieden had noted that trade unions were unaccustomed to working overtime. According to Bofferding, Luc Frieden is resistant to dialogue, which, she argued, has been evident in numerous dossiers throughout his year and eight months in office.

At a press conference Friday morning, which marked the end of the parliamentary year, the LSAP spared no criticism against the CSV-DP coalition. According to Bofferding, the government has sidelined the public interest, undermined social dialogue, disregarded Parliament, and prioritised the economy above all else.

The opposition party expressed lament about the style of governance, with Bofferding openly questioning whether the Prime Minister was fit to lead, describing his administration as a “chaos troop.” The only positive note in the party’s assessment was reserved for Finance Minister Gilles Roth (CSV), who they acknowledged had constructively engaged with the LSAP on tax individualisation and taken their proposals seriously.

Over the course of the year, LSAP MP’s have submitted around 520 interventions, including motions and urgent parliamentary questions. The party reaffirmed its commitment to advancing social issues and made clear it remains open to progress in the workplace – provided that decisions are made in consultation with social partners.
