The Ministry for Home Affairs announced plans to test the unit regionally in order to gain experience in more rural areas, starting with the Moselle Valley from 1 June. A local police unit will be attached to the Moselle commissary, which is responsible for eight municipalities including Grevenmacher, Mertert, Manternach, Biwer, Flaxweiler, Wormeldange, Lenningen and Stadbredimus.

The patrols would be deployed “during the daytime from Monday to Saturday, and on Sundays depending on requirements,” with a view to strengthening the police presence in the region, explained Pascal Peters, director general of the police.

The frequency and the optimal number of patrols are to be determined following initial consultations. There was also discussion of recruiting additional officers for this new unit, although the exact number is yet to be announced.
