CSJ therefore demands a political reset and a chance for the party's junior politicians to have more responsibility. Our colleagues from RTL talked to CSJ president Alex Donnersbach about the current situation and future prospects.
Donnersbach believes that in light of the upcoming CSV national congress, a new group made up of both young and experienced faces has to gather at the top. Most important of all however is that all these people can work together, Donnersbach emphasised. He also reiterated a long-standing demand that both president and secretary general enter the race jointly as a team.
In the meantime, the CSV national committee assembled again on Monday. Vice president Elisabeth Margue and Stéphanie Weydert have stepped up to take over the reigns in the absence of Frank Engel. At this point, Margue was unwilling to discuss the content of the meeting with RTL, emphasising that the party needs to wait until the outcome of ongoing legal procedures has become clearer.
Margue supports the proposal put forward by CSJ and expressed her desire to involve junior politicians in the new team leading CSV. According to RTL sources however, nobody from the junior fraction has yet stepped forward to candidate.
The CSV national congress will take place on 24 April.
