Party members met at Ellergrund in Esch-sur-Alzette on Wednesday morning.

The list is headed by the Minister for the Environment, Joëlle Welfring, who succeeded Carole Dieschbourg, and the newly elected alderman of Esch-sur-Alzette and party president, Meris Sehovic.

In addition, the Green Party’s current MPs are also featured on the list for southern Luxembourg. This includes Josée Lorsché, alderman in Bettembourg, Semiray Ahmedova, alderman in Dudelange, and pharmacist Marc Hansen from Bascharage.

Alongside these familiar names, there are also several newcomers seeking votes for the Green Party in the south of the country. Among them are film producer Paul Thiltges, gynaecologist Michael Clees from Esch, artist Raphael Gindt, and midwife Katja Battin.

In the previous election, the Green Party secured three mandates in the South, obtaining just under 15% of the votes. However, with the absence of previously elected members Felix Braz and Roberto Traversini, the team led by the duo Welfring-Sehovic faces a significant challenge in compensating for the approximately 25,000 and 19,000 votes respectively garnered by their predecessors.

Notably missing from the list are Laura Pregno, who performed well in the 2018 elections, and former alderman of Esch, Martin Kox. Mandy Ragni, who will assume the role of alderman in Esch as per the new coalition agreement, is also absent from the Green Party’s list.

The average age of the Green Party’s candidates on the southern list is 45. 11 women and 12 men will stand in the legislative elections.
