Police were carrying out a speed check on Route de Luxembourg in Dudelange on early Monday morning, when they noticed a car significantly speeding. As they attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver made a U-turn and fled the scene, prompting a police pursuit.
Due to wet road conditions, the police lost control of their vehicle on Rue Gaffelt, colliding with two parked cars. The fleeing driver also lost control on Rue Karl Marx, crashing into the steps of a house before resuming his escape towards the border. The car was later found on French territory near the border, but the driver had abandoned the vehicle and escaped on foot. A search for the suspect remains ongoing.
At around 5pm on Sunday, police received a report about a car on the N8 in Reckange that had hit a traffic island, a road sign, and a streetlight. Officers soon located the driver, who was found to be heavily intoxicated. Her driving licence was provisionally withdrawn, and she was taken to hospital for further assessment.
A short time later, another driver was seen swerving on the N18 near Boxhorn, having struck a wall and repeatedly crossed into the opposite lane. Police found both the car and driver in a nearby car park, where it was determined that alcohol was a factor. The individual's driving licence was immediately confiscated.
In Bonnevoie, officers stopped a car that had sustained significant damage. The driver admitted he had been involved in an accident, and police detected the smell of alcohol. A breath test confirmed intoxication, and his licence was withdrawn.
Police were also called to the Gare district in Luxembourg City, where a man was reported harassing passers-by. The individual was uncooperative and insulted officers as they intervened. Due to his intoxicated state, police determined he posed a danger to himself and others and detained him overnight. In addition to spending the night in police custody, the man received a citation for insulting officers.
