Due to the pandemic, festivities have once again been cancelled, but there are still some celebrations to look out for this Wednesday.

Official ceremony

The National Day ceremony will take place this Wednesday, June 23 at 10:55 a.m. at the National Monument of Solidarity. The event will bring together the Grand Duke, members of the government, deputies, representatives of the alderman college of the City of Luxembourg, the Council of State, the judiciary as well as the dean of the diplomatic corps accredited to the Luxembourg Head of State, the Chief of Staff of the Luxembourg Army and the Director General of the Grand Ducal Police.

The programme will include several speeches, including that of Grand Duke Henri, President of the Chamber of Deputies Fernand Etgen, and Prime Minister Xavier Bettel.

Following the ceremony, the traditional 21 gun salute will take place in Fetschenhaff.

Other events

Several communes are hosting local gatherings, in compliance with health measures.
In the absence of public celebrations, bars and restaurants have organised their own events. The Gudde Wëllen festival , for example, provides an entertaining programme at Kirchberg until Wednesday evening.

There’s live music across Luxembourg City as well.
