National lead candidate and justice minister Sam Tanson will be joined by Minister of Transport François Bausch at the top of the Green Party’s election list for October in central Luxembourg. However, deputy PM Bausch, who secured nearly 20,000 votes in the 2018 elections, has announced he has no intentions of taking on a ministerial role in the next government if he should be re-elected this autumn.
Tanson and Bausch are joined by MP Djuna Bernard, François Benoy, Charel Margue and Jessie Thill. For the most part, the Greens are relying on politicians who achieved good results in the recent local elections, such as the Luxembourg City and Bertrange councillors Christa Brömmel, Claudie Reyland and Gaby Damjanovic, as well as new councillor for Hesperange, Stephen De Ron.
Niederanven councillor Jojo de Vries also appears on the list alongside municipal council members Nora Forgiarini (Schuttrange), Armand Kremer (Lorentzweiler), Anne-Marie Linden (Strassen), Gilles Losch (Helperknapp) and Anna Tieben (Sandweiler).
Jean-Marc Cloos, director of the northern hospital CHDN, is also named, as well as Paul Zens, Nicolas Hentgen, young Greens co-spokesman Fabricio Costa, and Cecilia Beirao from Mersch.
The central constituency has a particular significance for the Greens, as it was the district which saw them gain six points and double their number of MPs. In 2018, four Green Party members were elected as MPs in central Luxembourg, with 16% of the vote. First choices Bausch and Tanson subsequently were named as ministers.
Carlo Back, who came fifth, has since retired from politics and will not be standing in this year’s elections.
