According to Minister of Culture Sam Tanson, the State is not interested in purchasing Septfontaines Castle.

Tanson clarified this in her reply to a parliamentary question by MP Fred Keup from the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (adr). The government is thus taking a similar stance to Birtrange Castle, which it had previously decided not to purchase.

The Minister added that, whether it is Birtrange or Septfontaines, the State’s purchase policy does not consist of buying all old buildings classified as national monuments.

All listed buildings benefit from legal protection, whether they belong to the State or not, Tanson pointed out.

The State therefore does not feel the need to buy either the castle of Birtrange or the castle of Septfontaines.

Septfontaines Castle has been privately owned until now. The foundations of the building probably date back to the 12th century, and the castle has been extended and refurbished several times over the centuries. At the end of the 18th century, the building had to be rebuilt after being completely destroyed by fire.
