As part of the investigation, this vehicle was traced back to a resident of Grevenmacher.
The prosecutor’s office was promptly informed of the situation and authorised a search of the individual’s residence, along with a search of another vehicle. As a precautionary measure, special police units were on-site, and nearby apartments were evacuated. The search of the apartment proceeded peacefully, but it did not yield any results.
However, ammunition and primers were discovered in the vehicle, and they had to be immediately disposed of due to their hazardous nature. The 32-year-old man, previously known to judicial authorities for other offenses, evaded arrest on Sunday, and the utility vehicle had also gone missing. Since then, the Special Police Unit had been conducting searches tirelessly, and last Wednesday, the fugitive was finally located and apprehended by law enforcement.
The utility vehicle he was using at that time was searched, but no further illegal ammunition was found. The arrested individual was brought before the investigating judge on Thursday morning, where he was charged and remanded in custody at the Uerschterhaff Penitentiary Center on charges of transporting and illegally possessing prohibited ammunition and explosives.
The investigation, which is yet to be fully explored, has been entrusted to the anti-terrorism section of the Luxembourg Judicial Police. Until proven otherwise, the presumption of innocence applies in this case.
