The car went off the road before hitting a road sign and a tree, which was uprooted and dragged for a few metres due to the violence of the impact. It was only when it crashed into a second tree that the vehicle finally came to a stop.
The driver was not injured in the various impacts, but given their blood alcohol level, there was no way around an immediate withdrawal of his licence.
In Differdange, a pedestrian was hit shortly after 9pm on Thursday evening. The victim was injured and admitted to hospital after receiving first aid on the site of the accident. The driver was inebriated but as their blood alcohol level was below 1.2%, they were allowed to keep their driving licence and received a ticket.
Another drunk driver hit a lamppost in Contern before continuing on their way. They were finally arrested in Frisange, where the police immediately confiscated their driving licence.
Another driving licence was withdrawn in Luxembourg City where a motorist was caught at 84 km/h instead of the permitted 50 km/h. Here too, the driver was found to be intoxicated and their licence was confiscated.
Finally, two other licence withdrawals were reported by the police in Esch-sur-Alzette and in the capital, following suspicious behaviour on the public highway. In both cases, the police discovered that the individuals were heavily inebriated.
