
On Thursday evening, police were called to Sandweiler following a hit-and-run accident in which the responsible driver fled the scene.
According to the police bulletin, the driver initially rear-ended another vehicle on the town’s main street before speeding away. Officers later tracked him down, but he was uncooperative and verbally abusive toward them.
When a female officer attempted to administer a breathalyzer test, the suspect turned violent and physically assaulted her. Police were forced to restrain him, and a subsequent test confirmed he was over the legal alcohol limit.
Due to his intoxicated state and the potential danger he posed to himself and others, he was taken into custody for the night following a medical examination. He also received a temporary driving ban.
