On Friday morning, Diekirch District Court issued the verdict regarding the tragic accident in May 2023 which led to a young father’s death. The defendant, a young man, was sentenced to 12 months in prison with a suspended sentence. He was also penalised with a driving ban of 36 months, except for driving to work.
The accident happened on 1 May 2023, when a man was run over by a car at around 3.30am, between Ell and Colpach-Haut. The victim had probably fallen asleep on a country road.
Both the victim and the driver had consumed too much alcohol at a May Day event organised in Ell. Taking into consideration a shared responsibility of the victim and his client, the defendant’s lawyer announced the intention to appeal against the ruling.
The public prosecutor had requested two years’ imprisonment and a five-year driving ban for involuntary manslaughter.
