The Christian Social People’s Party (CSV) is moving swiftly to finalise its ministerial reshuffle by the end of the week, following the resignation of Georges Mischo. Marc Spautz and Martine Hansen are designated to take over the labour and sport portfolios, respectively.
The party’s National Council – a body of approximately 100 members – will convene on Wednesday at the Barblé Centre in Strassen. It is expected to formally approve the appointments of Spautz and Hansen.
Also on Wednesday, the CSV parliamentary group will meet to select a new leader. According to information obtained by RTL, Laurent Zeimet, the Mayor of Bettembourg and a current MP, is a leading candidate for the role. Zeimet previously served as a parliamentarian from 2014 to 2018 and as a member of the Council of State between 2022 and 2023, before returning to the Chamber of Deputies in October 2023.
The transition will culminate on Thursday. Georges Mischo will tender his official resignation at the Grand Ducal Palace in the morning, after which Grand Duke Guillaume will swear in the two new ministers. The official handover of authority at their respective ministries will follow.
