The municipality in central Luxembourg will no longer be governed solely by the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV), as a coalition has been formed between CSV and the Democratic Party (DP).

Incumbent Mayor Marc Lies has officially confirmed to RTL that an agreement has been reached between the two parties to jointly lead the municipality for the next six years.

During the municipal council elections, held on Sunday, a total of 17 seats were up for grabs in Hesperange, which is two more compared to the previous election, when the CSV had an absolute majority.

Despite a 3% decline in votes, the CSV managed to retain its eight seats. On the other hand, the DP, under the leadership of Claude Lamberty, experienced an almost 3% increase in support, resulting in the party securing four seats in the newly elected Hesperange town council.

With a combined total of 12 seats, the CSV-DP coalition now holds a majority, providing what Mayor Marc Lies describes as “stable” conditions for governance.

In addition, the Pirate Party, represented by Mathis Godefroid, has gained a foothold in the Hesperange municipal council, garnering 6.4% of the votes, a significant achievement for the party which had no previous representation.
