In a statement published on Thursday, the charity said it was unacceptable that the council had not taken any initiative during the recent heatwave to offer support to the homeless suffering from the heat. The charity interprets the lack of intervention represents a ‘serious failure of the City’s social and public health responsibilities’.
Without regular access to water, shade or temperate accommodation, the homeless would be put at risk of becoming seriously ill or worse, the charity said.
In their open letter, the charity asked the council to put together a heatwave plan together with associations, but also to increase crisis communication to support vulnerable people.
