According to the Belgian news site ‘L’Avenir’, a major drug inspection took place at the Belgian-Luxembourg border overnight from Thursday to Friday.
On Friday at around 1am, a BMW broke through a roadblock set up by Belgian customs and police along the N81 between Arlon and Messancy, just a few kilometres from the Luxembourgish border, resulting in a car-chase.
The four people in the car fled towards Aubange in Belgium, where they abandoned the vehicle on Avenue de la Gare after the vehicle was stopped using a spike strip, which punctured its tires. The suspects then escaped on foot.
The police searched the BMW and found it loaded with explosives. The bomb disposal unit was called in, and a portion of the neighbourhood was evacuated. The explosives were then safely detonated in a nearby forest in Athus.
Three suspects were apprehended on Friday morning, as reported by the mayor of Aubange to the Belgian news site ‘7sur7'. An investigation is still ongoing.
