Expressing gratitude, Ambassador Thomas emphasised the commendable efforts of the Luxembourg volunteers who have, over the years, played an essential role for the British community in Luxembourg. Their consistent dedication has allowed the British Embassy to donate thousands of pounds, which offer lifelong support to both serving and ex-serving personnel, along with their families.
In 2022 alone, the Luxembourg sellers gathered an impressive sum of €1780.
The Poppy Appeal, a cherished tradition, supports numerous initiatives, from recovery and guidance to rehabilitation, for British service members. This year’s launch was made even more memorable with a heartfelt video message from UK Invictus Games medalist, Jonny Ball. As a close friend of Ambassador Thomas, Ball extended his personal thanks to the sellers for their continued support to the Royal British Legion.
The British Embassy, in its release, also extended its gratitude to all establishments in Luxembourg that have sold poppies in support of the Royal British Legion over the past years. Establishments or organisations interested in joining this noble cause in the future can reach out to EnquiriesLux@fcdo.gov.uk for more details.
Those wishing to support this year’s appeal can get their poppies at the following locations:
The Royal British Legion, formed on 15 May 1921, amalgamated four ex-Servicemen national organisations that had originated after the First World War. The very first Poppy Appeal, also held in 1921, saw an overwhelming response, raising over £106,000.
This significant sum was allocated to aid WW1 veterans with essential needs such as employment and housing, thereby birthing the Poppy Appeal tradition. This year’s appeal started on 26 October and is set to conclude on Remembrance Sunday, 12 November.
