On 5 February 2026 a case of bird flu was reported at a private bird owner’s property in Schengen. This comes at a time when the virus is spreading across Europe, particularly along routes used by migratory birds.

The Luxembourg Veterinary and Food Administration (ALVA) advises the public to prevent any contact between pet birds and wild birds as the virus is extremely infectious and can be fatal in many cases.
