Around 20,000 people took part in this year's pilgrimage to the Our Lady of Fátima monument in Wiltz on Ascension Day.
Despite rain and wind, thousands once again took to the road to carry on a tradition that holds great importance for many.
In Luxembourg, around 20,000 people gather annually in Wiltz to visit the monument to Our Lady of Fátima.
For many, the pilgrimage day begins early in the morning. The motivations of the pilgrims vary, but one thing unites them: faith and a sense of community.
"For me, personally, it's about faith. You just have to go", explained a first-time participant.
For others, the human experience is what counts most. "You go through moments of tiredness [...] and moments of joy and sharing", another participant recounted.
The highlight is the pilgrimage to the shrine, which has existed since 1952. Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich also took part. This year, President of the Chamber of Deputies Claude Wiseler and Prime Minister Luc Frieden were in attendance as well.
The pilgrimage of Our Lady of Fátima dates back to 1917, when the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to three children in the Portuguese village of Fátima. Since then, a tradition has developed that has also become deeply rooted in Luxembourg.
For many families, the pilgrimage is an annual fixture. Others come mainly for the social aspect. "The children like coming here. We are all together", one participant said.
Even though the weather was not ideal, with rain and wind, it did not stop people from making their way to Wiltz.
