Young people and parents alike could get information about all kinds of jobs, internships, and training at over 50 stands.

Close to 1,000 visitors on Wednesday attended the information session Deng Zukunft - Däi Wee for young people and parents at a Cloche d’Or shopping centre. This is the ninth edition of the fair, organised annually during the Carnival holidays by the National Youth Service (SNJ) and the Jugendinfopunkt Esch (JIP).

All day long, young people and their parents were able to gather information about a myriad of internships, training opportunities, and professions at over 50 stands. According to the deputy director of the SNJ, Nathalie Schirtz, the main purpose of the fair is to give young people the opportunity to have a first personal contact with the work environment. Schirtz further states that they not only thought about training and student jobs, but also about community service. She stresses that through various opportunities such as student jobs, training, and community service, young people could create connections with future employers.

The idea seems to be a success among young people, as Schirtz emphasises the increasing number of visitors as a sign of the attendees’ motivation. Quite a few of them go back home with fairly concrete ideas about their future work environment.

Bringing a variety of professions closer to home is also the goal of the Healthcareers campaign organised by the Ministry of Health. According to Sneja Dobrosavljevic of healthcareers.lu, many healthcare professions are highly exciting, but also not well-known. Dobrosavljevic mentions surgical medical technical assistants and the medical technical assistants in radiology as examples of professions that should be more in the spotlight, stressing their importance.

However, it’s not only a matter of importance, but also of necessity, especially in the healthcare sector, where new talent is currently sought after. The information session Deng Zukunft - Däi Wee is thus not only a great opportunity for young people to get a first impression of the work environment, but also a way for recruiters to discover new talent and, possibly, to win them over.
