The appeal process in the so-called Bommeleeër-Bis affair will be heard at the end of October, as colleagues at the Luxemburger Wort have confirmed with the judiciary. Proceedings are due to open on 27 October, with five hearing days scheduled so far.
The defendants are the former senior Gendarmerie officials Pierre Reuland, Aloyse Harpes, Guy Stebens, and Armand Schockweiler.
At first instance, only former police director general Pierre Reuland was handed a three-year prison sentence, fully suspended, for false statements in court. He appealed the ruling.
The prosecution, for its part, was also not satisfied with the sentence against Reuland or with the acquittals of the three other defendants, and lodged an appeal of its own.
At last year's trial, the proceedings did not concern the attacks of the 1980s themselves, but rather alleged false statements made during the bombings trial in 2013 and 2014.
