The RTL Team reporting for duty from the fair grounds at Glacis to gather first impressions from the event of the year.
At 11am, final preparations were underway for the opening night of the Schueberfouer: the last apples being peeled, stands being decorated. For now, the grounds seemed fairly empty. A few people were scattered here and there, especially senior visitors, who were already enjoying a curious look around in peace before the big beginning.
Impressions from the fair
Karl Heinz, a pensioner, attends the fair almost every year for the “good atmosphere, good food, and a cheeky beer". What he looks forward to most is seeing his friends.
For many school pupils, the Schueberfouer is an opportunity to gain their first work experience. They are fully aware of the hustle and bustle of the Fouer.
For Florent (19), this will be his second time working at the fair: “This year I am ready for the stress that comes with working here. Last year, there were already so many visitors. With a Red Bull or two in me, this year will go down smoothly surely.” Florent definitely plans to check out some of the other attractions the fair offers during his breaks.
For students like Kevin, the busy work schedule is something he has grown used to, and managing stress is part of the routine. He explains how important sleep is during the fair: “Sleep is really a big concern at the fair. You always have to make sure you get as much as possible.” Kevin is looking forward to “having a great time, meeting other students, and of course, earning some money.”
Annie is one of the many devoted fairgoers who show up every day. “I’m a fair enthusiast”, she says. “At home, I have nothing to do, but here I can eat and drink. Even at 70, I still enjoy the Breakdance and the Bayern Kurve.”
By noon, the fairgrounds were buzzing. Restaurants filled up, and families arrived with their children.
International visitors were also impressed. Emma and her partner, both from London, are attending the Schueberfouer for the first time. “We wanted to experience the fair while visiting Luxembourg during our holiday”, they explain.
Many young visitors, like 17-year-old Yfke and her classmates from the first year of secondary school, are enjoying the event as well. “As every year, we’re here to have fun with friends and enjoy the great atmosphere”, Yfke says. To start off, she and her friends headed straight for the XXL ride. For 17-year-old Iliana, the XXL was “super easy”. For them and many other visitors, the plan is simple: try out as many rides as possible and make the most of the next 20 days.
