Drivers continue to flout speed limits in the Stafelter, Gousselerbierg, and Grouft tunnels, where automatic checks have clocked up tens of thousands of violations over a period of two years.

Section control speeding cameras have been active for over two years in the Stafelter, Gousselerbierg, and Grouft tunnels on the A7 motorway.

Since then, more than 90,000 offences have been recorded where drivers exceeded the speed limit, according to Home Affairs Minister Léon Gloden and Mobility Minister Yuriko Backes in response to a parliamentary question from the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (ADR).

The Grouft tunnel near Lorentzweiler registered the most offences, with 39,700 violations. In 39,300 cases, drivers were slightly over the limit and fined €49. A further 400 cases resulted in €145 fines, while nine cases involved a serious speeding offence.

At the Gousselerbierg tunnel, the same number of serious speeding offences were recorded, with nearly 22,000 drivers flashed in total.

In the Stafelter tunnel, 12 drivers were caught driving far too fast over the entire length of the tunnel and were required to appear in court. In total, the Stafelter cameras detected around 28,800 speeding drivers.
