On a state visit to Luxembourg on Monday, the Saarland Minister of Home Affairs Robert Jost and Léon Gloden confirmed the discontinuation of border controls.

Minister of Home Affairs Léon Gloden and his German counterpart from Saarland, Robert Jost, confirmed on Monday that German border controls will cease starting August 2025. The goal is to make traffic more fluid again, as around 55,000 people travel across that border every day to work in Luxembourg.

"The two lanes will be reopened and the concrete blocks removed," explains Gloden. "But cross-border cooperation between the Grand Ducal Police and the Bundespolizei will be strengthened based on the Prüm Convention to limit smuggling and organised crime."
