A fatal traffic accident involving a car driving in the wrong direction occurred late Sunday evening, on the A7 motorway between the Mersch and Gousselerbierg tunnels, according to police.

At around 10.40pm, two vehicles collided – one of them reportedly driving in the wrong direction. The 42-year-old driver of the oncoming car died at the scene from his injuries. The other driver, who had been driving in the wrong direction, was seriously injured and taken to hospital.

The motorway was closed northbound between Lorentzweiler and Mersch until 4.30am as police technical teams investigated and seized both vehicles involved.

Earlier that evening, at around 8pm, a separate incident occurred on Rue Denis Netgen in Schifflange, where a child was hit and injured by a motorcycle.
