Two defendants in the Caritas fraud case may reach an early settlement, Radio 100,7 reported on Tuesday evening.
The Bulgarian nationals, accused of opening Spanish bank accounts used to funnel part of the embezzled €60 million from Caritas in 2024, are believed to have participated in a so-called ‘CEO fraud’ scheme.

Under the proposed settlement, the two men would receive an 18-month prison sentence, with 15 months suspended. Prosecutors reportedly justified the deal by citing their clean criminal records and cooperation with investigators. A decision on whether the court will approve the agreement or proceed to trial is expected next week.

To date, nine individuals have been arrested in connection with the fraud. Separately, the NGO’s former financial director faces charges after transferring millions to Spain.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Deputies will debate the Special Parliamentary Committee’s report on the Caritas affair on Thursday. The document, drafted by LSAP parliamentary group president Taina Bofferding, will be the focus of discussions.
