The Council of State has given unanimous approval to a proposal by The Left (Déi Lénk) to enshrine the right to abortion in Luxembourg's constitution.

All 18 members voted in favour of the change, paving the way for the Chamber of Deputies to formally anchor what is already regulated by law. The Council noted that the amendment would not represent a paradigm shift, as the right to abortion is already legally protected.

Any constitutional amendment or addition will require a two-thirds majority in the Chamber.
