OGBL and LCGB are formalising their collaboration into a joint non-profit structure, aiming to speak with one voice in negotiations with the government and employers ahead of a major demonstration on 28 June.
What began as a loose cooperation between the Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation (OGBL) and the Luxembourg Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (LCGB) is now being formalised into a new non-profit association.
According to a press conference invitation, the 'Union of Trade Unions OGBL and LCGB' will be officially announced on Friday, 20 June.
The two major unions are thus forming a unified body. During the press conference, the two unions also intend to sign the articles of association of the newly founded entity.
This raises the question of whether the new structure, which is an unprecedented move at national level in Luxembourg’s union landscape, will follow the model of the existing joint association Siderurgie.
If so, the presidency of the Union of Trade Unions would be jointly held by the two presidents, Nora Back and Patrick Dury, and the board of directors would be composed equally of OGBL and LCGB representatives.
With their combined membership of 125,000 people, the Luxembourg trade unions aim to speak with one voice in discussions with both government and employers.
Details will be provided at the press conference on Friday.
