From 7 JuneDommeldange level crossing to close for underpass construction

RTL Today
Starting Saturday 7 June, motorists and pedestrians will have to take a detour to cross the train tracks near Dommeldange train station.

From Saturday onwards, the level crossing at Dommeldange train station will remain permanently closed. The decision was taken as part of a security and mobility project conducted by the National Railway Company CFL, Luxembourg City, and the National Roads Administration.

The level crossing in Dommeldange is one of the most used in the country and often causes traffic disruptions. To improve safety, and to improve traffic congestion, work will start next week on an underpass for pedestrians and cyclist. Detours for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists will be necessary during the construction works.

For the duration of the project, a detour will operate where vehicles will be required to cross at Rue Auguste Laval. Pedestrians and cyclists are advised during works to pass under the track via the train station. CFL reminds users that it is strictly prohibited to climb over the train tracks in order to reach the other side of the station.

The underpass and the closing of the level crossing form part of a wider mission to eliminate dangerous street and rail crossings within the Grand Duchy. It is expected one, or two, crossings will be removed each year.
