After months of controversy and delays, Luxembourg’s Parliament will hold a public debate on 2 July over a petition calling for sanctions against Israel, exactly one year after its submission.

After being reformulated twice and following extensive discussions within the Parliamentary Petitions Committee and the Conference of Presidents, a date has finally been agreed for a public debate on petition 3231, which calls on the Luxembourg government to impose sanctions on Israel for its policies in the Palestinian territories, which the petitioners argue amount to war crimes.

There had been disputes in the run-up to the motion's approval, including over the unauthorised use of the Chamber's logo.

However, a decision has now been made: 4,763 signatures have been validated, and the debate will take place in the Chamber plenary session on 2 July, exactly one year after its submission. Petitioner Dalia Khader and her supporters will thus be given the floor to make their case.
