Grand Duke Henri and Prime Minister Luc Frieden will join an assembly of world leaders in Rome this weekend for the funeral of Pope Francis.
A significant gathering of world leaders, including Luxembourg's Grand Duke Henri and Prime Minister Luc Frieden, will attend the funeral of Pope Francis in Rome on Saturday. RTL is reporting live from the Vatican.
The ceremony is scheduled for 10am in St. Peter's Square, with confirmed attendees ranging from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to US President Donald Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and French President Emmanuel Macron.
The Kremlin confirmed Russian President Vladimir Putin will not attend.
In a departure from tradition, the late pontiff will be interred at the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore per his personal wishes, rather than in St. Peter's Basilica.
From 9am Wednesday, the Pope's body will lie in state at St. Peter's Basilica for public visitation. Italy has declared a five-day national mourning period beginning Tuesday.
The funeral will be followed by a pre-Conclave meeting to address interim church governance, after which the 135 elective cardinals will convene in the Sistine Chapel to elect a new pope.
