A house was on fire on Rue Victor Hugo on Wednesday morning, emergency services report. Police recommend avoiding the area, as the street is completely sealed off.

Emergency services and the mayor Christian Weis reported one critical injury, with the person admitted to hospital. Addition to the first responder, firefighters from Esch, Kehlen, Petange and Differdange are currently at the scene.

The fire is said to be under control. Police have closed off the road, recommending commuters to avoid the area.

Around 4.45am, a neighbour was woken up by a beeping sound. When she wanted to see where it was coming from, she saw that there was a fire in the house. "I saw from my window that my neighbour's house was on fire, and that the lady was standing on the terrace. Of course I immediately called the fire brigade and ambulance," she said.

There was a concern that the fire could jump to other surrounding buildings, but that did not occur. "Now the experts will see what the cause of the fire is, but it may take a while until someone knows, " said mayor Christian Weis.
