According to documents published by the Ministry of Home Affairs, 252 people applied for international protection in Luxembourg in October, the highest figure in the Grand Duchy so far this year.

The most applicants came from Eritrea (41), Syria (32) and Algeria (23). Other countries on the list included Turkey (21), Venezuela (19), Morocco and Tunisia (12 each), Colombia, Russia and Ukraine (7 each), Afghanistan, Angola, Libya and Nigeria (5 each), as well as 46 from other countries.

The refugee status was recognised for 50 people, and 11 people were granted subsidiary protection status due to a threat to their lives in their home country. 49 applications were refused.

In October, 31 applicants were transferred to other European countries, with three coming to Luxembourg from other EU member states.

One person was forcibly turned back to Colombia.
