Several people in Esch-sur-Alzette were fined for possession of illicit substances as a result of police checks on Wednesday afternoon.

Police carried out a large-scale check at Esch-sur-Alzette station and on trains late on Wednesday afternoon, which led to the discovery of seven people who were in breach of laws on drugs and weapons.

Seven people were fined for being in possession of at least 3 grammes of cannabis each. One individual was found to be in possession of just over 47 grammes of hashish and 9.8 grammes of cannabis.

The police recall that Luxembourg law imposes a fine of €145 on the transport, retention, or acquisition (whether in return for payment or free of charge) of cannabis or products derived from the same plant, for personal use, in quantities of 3 grammes or more.

In two other cases, the police seized just over 14 and 7 grammes of cannabis respectively. In all three cases, the offenders were fined.

In addition, one of the inspected individuals was carrying brass knuckles, which where seized. Officers also found a small quantity of cannabis in a dustbin.
