The Chamber of Deputies passed a motion on Thursday calling on the government to intervene with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to bring an end to the border controls that have been reintroduced by some European countries.
Following the reintroduction of border checks by eight European countries, including Germany and France, Luxembourg MPs in the Chamber of Deputies debated on Thursday how the Grand Duchy should react.
MP Yves Cruchten of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP), which had requested the debate, stressed that standing by and doing nothing would be "unacceptable". Alongside the Green Party (Déi Gréng), the LSAP tabled a motion calling on the government to intervene with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to assess the current border controls and bring them to an end.
The motion was passed with 55 votes in favour. All five MPs of the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (adr) voted against the motion.
