A new roadwork project, which starts on 15 November, is likely to complicate the lives of cross-border workers from Belgium travelling on the A6, as it will affect traffic in both directions and will not be completed until May 2026.

On Friday, 15 November, a new roadwork project is set to start on the A6 between the Mamer/Capellen interchange and Aire de Cappellen. This information was confirmed by both the Luxembourg Motoring Association (ACL) and the National Roads Authority. The latter informed that signs will be put in place on Thursday before the actual roadwork will begin on the following day. The work will last until May 2026.

According to Ralph di Marco, spokesman for the National Roads Authority, the project involves repairing the motorway bridge over the CFL line, which will include waterproofing, concrete work, and new supports, among other things. Additionally, the bridge will be widened to allow the A6 to be upgraded from 2x2 to 2x3 lanes, similar to other motorways in Luxembourg, di Marco explained.

From Thursday, the speed limit on this 2km stretch of the A6 between the Mamer exit and the Capellen service area towards Arlon will be reduced from 130 km/h to 70km/h. The lanes will also be narrowed, which is likely to have an impact on rush hour traffic.

The same arrangements will be put in place on Friday in the other direction, on the same stretch of road. As a result, traffic in the direction of Luxembourg City will be affected from 15 November.

The speed limit on this section will also be set at 70km/h, and the lanes will be narrowed between the Capellen service area and the Mamer exit. Traffic disruption is therefore to be expected.

With snow due to return next week, traffic jams are almost guaranteed.
