After the absence of the Israeli stand caused a stir in 2023, it has now been confirmed that it will be back at the 2024 edition of the International Bazar.
The International Bazar will be back in action on the weekend of 15, 16, and 17 November. After its absence in 2023, it has been confirmed that the Israeli stand will be back this year, despite security concerns. Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden informed MPs in the Chamber of Deputies on Wednesday that he had issued orders for an increased police presence at the venue.
Minister Gloden stated that the Luxembourg police regularly carry out risk analyses related to faith-based violence, adding that an initial meeting to implement an action plan against anti-Semitism was held on 7 October.
The Minister explained that the sites where the Jewish community gathers, in particular the country's two synagogues, had been evaluated. In addition to a regular police presence at every ceremony, the situation is systematically assessed on a case-by-case basis, according to Gloden. The police has put in place regular patrols that adapt to the circumstances, "in other words, when the risk is higher, we send out more police and vice versa."
The organising committee of the International Bazar announced last year that Israel was unable to take part for organisational reasons. Unofficially, however, it was rumoured that security concerns had been raised.
