Staff at the Schlammwiss nature reserve in Schuttrange recently identified a rare bird species, the Sardinian warbler, which is typically found in the Mediterranean region.

During routine migration monitoring, employees from the bird ringing station at the Schlammwiss nature reserve discovered a fully grown Sardinian warbler (Curruca melanocephala). Taking advantage of the opportunity, they successfully ringed the bird.

This sighting is significant, as the Sardinian warbler usually nests in the Mediterranean. Since 3 October 2015, this marks only the second time a Sardinian warbler has been observed in Luxembourg.
