As part of a world tour, the Brazilian company Embraer visited Findel Airport to present its E-195-E2 aircraft.
This machine, also known as 'Profit Hunter', is particularly attractive to customers given the reduced noise and reduced fuel consumption, overall meaning lower CO2 and noise emissions.
Nine aircrafts of the E2 family are to be incorporated into the Luxair fleet to complement its Q-400s, which offer 76 seats.
Listen to the report in Luxembourgish:
"This is the real future", says Gilles Feith, Luxair's Managing Director, "this is the most economic regional aircraft of its generation, with 25% less fuel consumption and emissions." With a capacity of less than 150 seats and a flight range of 5,000 kilometres, this model is clearly the most efficient in its category.
Listen to the report in Luxembourgish:
The 195-E2 can carry up to 136 passengers and is fully equipped to serve all destinations in Europe, including the Canary Islands. This acquisition should therefore allow the airline to focus on shorter routes, an option that could help Luxair to make better headway in a complicated financial context. Each new aircraft from the world's third largest aircraft manufacturer after Boeing and Airbus costs just over €80 million.
This new model offers revamped comfort, with more space for baggage than in the Q-400s inside the cabin, as the compartment reserved for it has been enlarged. There is also more space under the seats. Interior noise levels have also been reduced by 50% compared with the previous model, and the configuration now includes two rows of two seats.
"This aircraft is the largest that can land in London City, but we will also be using it to fly to Lisbon. These new aircraft will enable us to extend our network, which currently comprises 96 destinations across Europe, thanks to our ten Boeing and 11 De Havilland Q-400s", emphasises Luxair's CEO.
The first Embraer aircraft is expected to be delivered to Luxembourg at the end of 2025, with three more to follow in 2026. Luxair hopes to acquire five more, but is yet to decide on the model: either the 195-E2 or its smaller 190-E2 version, with a capacity of 110 seats.
For Gilles Feith, one thing is certain: even with these nine new aircraft, "it's probably not going to be enough to absorb demand".
This is not the first time that Luxair has worked with Embraer; in the past, the older ERJ-145 and ERJ-120 models have already been part of the Luxembourg fleet.
