As of January 1, 2024, Luxembourg's 20 largest companies, encompassing both public and private sectors, collectively employed 64,480 people, as reported by STATEC.
According to the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC), these companies collectively account for nearly 12.5% of all jobs in the country. The leader among them remains unchanged.
CFL tops the list with 4,990 employees. The railway company covers many areas and carried over 29 million passengers in 2023.
Dussmann Luxembourg, specialising in cleaning services, and Post Luxembourg follow closely, with 4,710 and 4,350 employees respectively.
The Cactus group, with stores throughout the country, ranks 4th, employing 4,290 workers.
Amazon, headquartered in Luxembourg for its European operations, secures 5th place with 4,270 employees. The company, led by Andy Jassy, dropped from 2nd place last year. An Amazon spokesperson clarified that this figure is not driven by recent layoffs and emphasised that employee counts fluctuate daily.
The top 10 includes several major companies, starting with financial sector heavyweights BGL BNP Paribas (3,900 employees) and PwC (PricewaterhouseCoopers), a member of the 'Big Four' audit firms.
Proof that industry still thrives in Luxembourg, ArcelorMittal ranks 8th with 3,520 employees, followed by Goodyear with 3,440. The national airline Luxair rounds out the top 10, employing approximately 3,010 people.
