Fans of science fiction, fantasy, cosplay and horror flocked to Geesseknäppchen this weekend to meet their local community, see international actors, collect gadgets and participate in competitions.

Manga / Anime Cosplayers, Star Wars enthusiasts, Ghostbusters fans and so on... Between 300-400 people in Luxembourg are actively part of the Luxembourg Luxcon community. The festival provides a space each year for fans of science fiction, fantasy and horror cultures to meet like-minded people.

And this group only keeps on growing, says Gérard Kraus, organiser of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Society.

"We are seeing a new series or movie in these genres being released every week. And of course there are more fans, more people identify with it. The fear of contact from 20 years ago is gone now...people are less afraid to out themselves as fans."

A big highlight was the stand of British actor Samantha Alleyne. She starred in five Star Wars films: "I was the first female Stormtrooper in Star Wars. I played in Episode 7 - The Force Awakens in 2014. During the shoot Director J.J. Abrams wondered why there weren't any female stormtroopers. I had another small role and I fit the bill... and so I was the first woman to be asked to play a stormtrooper," said Alleyne.

At the venue, there were multiple stands of particular interest to collectors, who could hunt for gadgets and rare pieces. And there was never a dull moment at Luxcon, with competitions, workshops and special offers constantly available.
