On Tuesday, Digitalisation Minister Stéphanie Obertin informed lawmakers about efforts to create a so-called e-wallet for Luxembourg citizens, which will include a digital ID.
The initiative will be free of charge and can be activated voluntarily. The government will also ensure that the platform is protected with the necessary safety precautions.
According to Obertin, the initiative is meant to be an interim solution as the EU is currently working on a uniform platform for all its citizens.
A release date for Luxembourg's new e-wallet was not disclosed during the session of the Chamber's digitalisation commission.
